THE VALUES

There is general agreement that a major cause of crime is the lack of values taught to children. Too many of them are being raised without the benefit of loving, responsible and competent adults who teach them right from wrong. Too many children are not learning to feel joy at others’ joy, or sadness at their sadness. Too many children are not learning to feel pride and satisfaction at doing the right thing, or remorse and guilt when doing wrong. Too many are growing up in an environment that does not teach these positive values. Instead, they are living and maturing in a world of criminal values where everyone fights everyone and bad behavior is promoted and encouraged. In order to break the cycle, the children need to learn and focus on moral values which can give them the strength to reshape their lives. For them to learn successful values and how to apply them in their lives is the first step. The practice of these values will result in improved school attendance and grades, improved behavior, and the development of a caring, self-reliant human being.
